Benito Mussolini- Rise of Fascism
Born into an impoverished area, Mussolini moved to Sweden to be able to have the chance to become involved in socialistic politics. Once he established a political basis, Mussolini returned to Italy to work as a journalist in the socialist press. His desire for political achievement was interrupted involuntary drafting into the Italian army. But along with his return from war, In March 1919, Mussolini formed the Fascist Party. Mussolini adhered to radical right-wing policies; promising order and maintaining the idea of nationalism, he soon gathered his own private army. He and his followers used violence to groups of opposing views, which only helped Mussolini is his rise of dictatorial rule not unlike that of Adolf Hitler. By 1922 Mussolini had enough power to demand representation in the actual government of Italy but when his demand was denied, he decided to use force to get where he wanted to. On October 28th 1922, Mussolini and his supporters assembled to converge on the city of Rome from various parts of the country, in what was to be called "La Marcia Su Roma" (The March on Rome). King Emanuel III refused to resist them, and they entered Rome unopposed. Mussolini was soon asked to assume the position of prime minister by the King. This famous march on Rome forshadowed the rise of Fascism in Italy and what was to come.
