Weimer Republic – Rise of Fascism
Fascism is the rule of the people by dictatorial government that is nationalistic and imperialistic. These dictatorial governments with dictators as rulers were come to because of widespread economic despair. Fascist governments are also anticommunist. A fascist state involves a strong military, censorship and government control of news, extreme nationalism, state control of economy, strict discipline, rule by dictator, blind loyalty to leader, and use of violence and terror. Fascism was brought upon Italy and Germany right after World War I. After World War I the Kaiser in Germany stepped down. This new democratic republic with the use of fascism in Germany was called The Weimer Republic. The Weimer Republic was blamed for agreeing to the terms of The Treaty of Versailles. Inflation in Germany caused economic problems. These issues led to the Nazi rise to power. Adolf Hitler who was the leader of the Nazi promised the people of Germany that he would provide jobs and rebuild German pride. He believed that the Germans were superior races who were destined to build a new empire. In 1920 he took as leader of the Nazi Party or called the National Socialist German Workers and in 1933 he was appointed chancellor. The Weimer Republic is what gave the people of Germany hope using fascism so that Germany could restore themselves after the embarrassing loss of World War I.
